SAP S/4HANA Migration Cockpit (LTMC): Easy Guide (Step By Step)


This article aims to help Functional Consultants to quickly learn how to use SAP S/4HANA (On-Premise) Migration Cockpit (LTMC). A lot of information is already available on Internet for Migration Cockpit. Therefore, this document focuses on step by step instruction to use Migration Cockpit instead of going in much technical/theoretical details.


SAP S/4HANA Migration Cockpit is a web-based tool to migrate your legacy data in SAP. This tool is available from SAP S/4HANA 1610 onward. It allows to download predefined  Excel based Templates (Excel XML) which enables you to easily extract legacy data in these templates and upload. Migration Cockpit uses BAPI functionality to transfer/upload data in target system.


Migration objects are defined by SAP, and describe how to migrate data from legacy system to SAP S/4HANA i.e. which tables are needed and the relationships between the tables etc. Material Master, Customer Master, Sales Order, Purchase Order etc. are migration objects in Migration Cockpit and SAP provides an Excel based template for each migration object.

Transaction Code

  • LTMC - Migration Cockpit: Usage: To transfer the legacy data to SAP S/4HANA.
  • LTMOM - Migration Object Modeler: Usage: If a standard template for migration object (e.g. Material Master, Sales order, Purchase Order etc.) does not meet your business requirement (for example if the relevant Microsoft Excel XML file does not contain all the fields that you need, you want to make certain fields mandatory etc.), you can use the SAP S/4HANA Migration Object Modeler to adjust the relevant migration object. 

Note that the SAP S/4HANA Migration Object Modeler is only relevant for the on-premise edition of SAP S/4HANA.

Prerequisite

To transfer legacy data using SAP S/4 HANA Migration Cockpit (LTMC), authorization role SAP_CA_DMC_MC_USER is required. To use SAP S/4 HANA Migration Object Modeler, role SAP_CA_DMC_MC_DEVELOPER is required.
